UConn’s Global Impact: A Year of Connection and Collaboration

As part of International Education Week 2025, we’re celebrating UConn’s vibrant role in the global community. Over the past year, our students, faculty, and programs have built bridges across cultures, advanced research through international partnerships, and welcomed global perspectives to campus. Students Gain Fieldwork Experience Studying Geohazards in Taiwan

This winter, 10 UConn students traveled to Taiwan for a three-week Earth science field course, learning alongside local students and experiencing the country’s unique geology, geography and culture firsthand.

UConn AUKUS Scholars Explore Undersea Vehicle Technology, International Collaborations in Australia

When biomedical engineering major Benjamin Fieldsend ’27 (ENG) was growing up in southeastern Connecticut, submarines were a regular sight on the Thames River. Living just minutes from the 687-acre Naval Submarine Base New London—and interning there in high school—sparked a fascination with the powerful, stealthy vessels that shape global security.

UConn Student Represents US in UN Global Youth Statement

Each year, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) holds a Conference of Parties (COP) to discuss the current status of global actions on climate change, and future steps to take. Leading up to the COP, youth from over 70 countries convene as part of the Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) program to develop a Global Youth Statement (GYS) to be presented to world leaders at the COP

UConn Student Spends Summer in Turkey As Part of CLS Program

UConn student Hope Chokshi ’28 (CLAS) spent two months this summer studying in Turkey as part of the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program through the U.S. Department of State. Chokshi is a native of Avon and is pursuing a dual degree in classics and molecular and cell biology.

UConn Medical Students Compete in Research Challenge of American Medical Association

The event is the largest national, multi-specialty research event featuring research from 1,000 medical students, residents, fellows, and international medical graduates from over 174 medical schools and more than 150 residency and health care institutions. More than 1,400 abstracts were submitted to the event for consideration in research across six topic areas of basic science, clinical and translational research, clinical vignettes, health systems science, medical education, and public health and health policy.
