UConn and the UN Sustainable Development Goals
In 2015, world leaders of the United Nations came together and adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This promise to secure the rights and well-being of everyone on a healthy, thriving planet remain the world’s roadmap for ending poverty, tackling inequalities, and protecting the planet. UConn proudly conducts ongoing research, teaching, and public engagement central to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals with strong focuses on social justice, environmental awareness and advocacy, and civic responsibility.

Global Networks and ECOSOC Partnerships
UConn is proud to have affiliations with 10 organizations that have consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). This enables our faculty and students to contribute expertise, advocate for solutions, and participate in shaping global policies that address today’s most pressing economic, social, and environmental challenges.
UConn Networks
- Universitas 21– In April 2010, UConn became the second U.S. University to join the network, and has maintained membership since.
- International Association of Schools of Social Work- UConn School of Social Work is an active member of IASSW.
- Scholars at Risk– UConn has been a member of the Scholars at Risk network since 2010.
- Habitat for Humanity International– The UConn Chapter partners with Eastern Connecticut Habitat for Humanity to provide volunteers for ongoing projects.
- Engineers without Borders– UConn has had an active chapter on campus since 2016.
- American Bar Association– UConn’s School of Law is accredited by ABA.
- American Psychological Association- UConn’s Psychology program is accredited by APA.
- Sigma Theta Tau, Internation Honor Society of Nursing– In 1955, the UConn School of Nursing chartered the 11th chapter of this honor society, and has continued operating the chapter ever since.
- Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority– A chapter was established at UConn in 1993, and has continued to operate at UConn since it was most recently reactivated in 2007.
- Delta Sigma Theta Sorority– A UConn chapter was established in Spring 2025.
UConn@COP Fellowship Program
For the past decade, UConn students and faculty have taken part in the United Nations Conference of the Parties (COP)— the premier global Climate Change Conference. Through the UConn@Cop Fellowship, UConn students have contributed to international press panels, networked with global NGOs, sustainability-focused businesses, engaged with international delegates and leaders of environmental justice movements, and connected with passionate, like-minded students from colleges and universities across the U.S. and around the world.
