Are you interested in learning a foreign language, doing research, pursuing a Masters program, or teaching English in another country? Then please stop by our International Scholarships drop-in hour to learn more about the Fulbright, Critical Language, and Boren Scholarships.

In partnership with more than 140 countries worldwide, the Fulbright U.S. Student Program offers unparalleled opportunities in all academic disciplines to passionate and accomplished graduating college seniors, graduate students, and young professionals from all backgrounds. Program participants pursue graduate study, conduct research, or teach English abroad.

The Critical Language Scholarship Program provides opportunities for American college and university students to study languages and cultures essential to America's engagement with the world. Each summer, American undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at U.S. colleges and universities across the country, spend eight to ten weeks learning one of thirteen languages at an intensive study abroad institute. The CLS Program is designed to promote rapid language gains and essential intercultural fluency in regions that are critical to U.S. national security and economic prosperity.

Boren Awards focus on countries, languages, and fields critical to U.S. national security, recognizing a broad definition that includes traditional concerns of protecting American well-being, as well as challenges of global society, such as sustainable development, environmental issues, disease, migration, and economic competitiveness. They emphasize less commonly taught languages and long-term linguistic and cultural study, as well as research and academic internships abroad. Study of a foreign language appropriate to the country or region is an integral part of each Boren Scholar and Fellow’s plan. Boren Scholarships can provide undergraduate students with up to $25,000, depending on the length of the study abroad program.

Within these larger themes, the award committee is particularly eager to recognize stories about individuals – real or fictional, children or adults – who have been affected by social injustices, and who, by confronting them, have made a difference in their lives or the lives of others. The 2023 Malka Penn Award will be presented to the authors of the winning books at The Dodd Center for Human Rights. Following the ceremony and a discussion with the authors, join us for a catered reception in the Dodd Lounge.
